HISTORY
1963 "ELDE",LEON DERNIER
Leon Dernier Purchased this car in March of 1963 for the Cooper Works. The car was painted in the Belgian national color Yellow. "Elde" was Leon Dernier (LD being his initials). 'Dernier' actually means 'last' in French, so this was hardly an appropriate name for a racing driver. Elde also did quite well at Le Mans, finishing 3rd twice and 4th once in 5 starts. He was killed at Spa in 1969.

MILNER 1964-1965
The Car Change hands since then Elde. We have been told that the car went back to Cooper, we have some new leads and and indication the Revson and or Mayer may have brought this and Franck's car back to the USA. The car was raced in 1965 by a man named Milner in East St. Louis Illinois. He raced the car once in the beginning of 1965 and determined the car was too fast for him and immediately put it up for sale. We are looking for contact information or leads. James thinks that the car was purchase in 1964 and arrived via boat in early 1965. |
JAMES AHLQUIST 1965-1968
James bought this car from Milner in 1965. The car was on display for the opening of the movie Grand Prix in St Louis. We have contacted James and he live less than 30 miles from the car.

Qualifying: 11th Car#83 James Ahlquist, Cooper T67 - Ford Race: 7th Car#83 James Ahlquist, Cooper T67 - Ford In 1967 James raced the car at the ARRC finishing 7th in Formula C. Below are images of the car from that event. James reports he was leading formula C in the car until he had a fire in the car and had to pull over, he resumes and finished. The fire was caused by a crack in the gearbox case. The car was serviced by Jim Grahm Sports Cars in Ft. Lauderedale. The tail was lost in a race at Tulsa in 1968 when a crew member forgot to latch the retaining springs. The Lotus steering wheel on the car was a gift from a friend at Lotus and was a spare wheel brought over by lotus in support of Jimmy Clarks Indy car. |
JOSEPH LYSELL 1968-1972
Joe wrecked the car in a front impact at Indianapolis Raceway Park in 1968. Joe sold the car to Richard Clark MD in 1972 in as wrecked condition.
